So what are your options?

When choosing a way to power your home or business from a backup power supply there are some different ways to approach it with preferences and budgets in mind. Lets skim the surface here!

  • Small portable generator; This method is always the most basic and economical. Depending on the size of your generator of choice you can run anywhere from the refrigerator and a few lights to most of your home amenities. These generators will typically need to be wheeled out and connected to the generator plug then monitored throughout the outage for fuel levels and the return of street power. â€‹

  • Home standby generator; All home owners should look to have this option when your budget allows. Typically sized to run your whole house not even a thanksgiving dinner can be interrupted! During a power outage a transfer switch will sense the loss of street power, start the generator engine, the transfer switch will disconnect street power from the panel and feed it with the generator, the transfer switch will continuously monitor for the return of the street power so when it returns the panel will automatically get fed from the street, and the generator will shut down.

  • Large portable generator; These trailer mounted behemoths are made to power customers with a high demand load in mind such as commercial or industrial businesses. Set ups like these are often used at businesses where you might not have the space to dedicate to a standby generator or in a critical business application where you need a backup point in case the main standby generator were to fail.

  • Commercial standby generator; Many businesses have the need for a standby generator. It is the same principals of the home standby generator but on a larger scale. It's an almost instantaneous solution to what could have been lost revenue.
